Becky Lankford, a senior from Moline, Illinois, found her passion for engineering while taking courses in high school. These courses led her to want to pursue a degree in engineering. Receiving the Sargent and Lundy Engineering Scholarship was the icing on the cake for her time at Illinois.
Becky’s award helps offset the extra cost of being an engineering student. “Any financial help is welcomed, and this means a lot to both my family and me,” she shared. Her parents have the incredible financial burden of putting two kids through college. This scholarship lightens the load for her parents. It also provides peace of mind for Becky so she does not worry as much about the financial costs and can focus on what it means to attend Illinois.
In her free time, Becky enjoys watching and playing sports. She’s a member of the Illini Handball Club. As a leader in Illini Pride, Becky serves as Orange Krush Chair for Illini Men’s Basketball games. She also enjoys reading and hanging out with friends.
Becky is honored to be a 2016-2017 recipient of the Sargent and Lundy Engineering Scholarship.
“I hope that one day I will be well-off enough to be able to help young people reach their goals of attending and graduating from the college program of their choice.”
Making a difference
Becky’s favorite courses are the design courses she has taken as part of her mechanical engineering major.
