Official Description
Geometry and topology of engineered components: creation of engineering models and their presentation in standard 2D blueprint form and as 3D wire-frame and shaded solids; meshed topologies for engineering analysis and tool-path generation for component manufacture; ISO and ANSI standards for coordinate dimensioning and tolerancing; geometric dimensioning and tolerancing. Use of solid-modeling software for creating associative models at the component and assembly levels with automatic blueprint creation, interference checking, and linked bill of materials. Course Information: Credit is not given towards graduation for both ME 170 and SE 101. Class Schedule Information: Reserved for Mechanical Science and Engineering students. Students must register for one lab and one lecture section.
Detailed Course Description
Geometry and topology of engineered components: creation of engineering models and their presentation in standard 2d blueprint form and as 3D wire-frame and shaded solids; meshed topologies for engineering analysis and tool-path generation for component manufacture; ISO and ANSI standards for coordinate dimensioning and tolerancing, with modeling software for creating associative models at the component and assembly levels with automatic blueprint creation, interference checking, and linked bill of materials. Credit is not given for both ME 170 and GE 101.
TOPICS:
- Introduction to CAD: 2D CAD, 3D wireframe, and 3D solids and surfaces
- Basic Part modeling: setting up datum planes, defining the coordinate systems, feature selection, parent/child relationships, dimension driven 3D sketching (include. protrusions, revolving. extruding etc), visualization (hidden lines, shaded, and perspective views)
- Complex Parts and Surfaces: Curved surfaces and blends, shelled/molded parts, adding ribs and bosses, creating parametric designs (include. variables, equations, forms and tables
- Detailing and Blueprint Creation: Orthographic projections, line and text forms, coordinate dimensioning and tolerancing principles and standards, geometric dimensioning and tolerancing, section and part-section views
