Sezer OzerincMechSE alumnus and visiting researcher Sezer Ozerinc was recently honored with a 2024 Science Academy Young Scientists Award Program (BAGEP) from the Science Academy in Turkey.

This year, the award, equivalent to a National Academy of Sciences Young Investigator Award, was presented to 42 people under the age of 40 every year across all disciplines of science, humanities, and medicine – with the aim of identifying, rewarding and supporting young academicians in conducting new studies. Science Academy was established in 2011 in Istanbul as an independent non-governmental organization to promote, practice and uphold the principles of scientific merit, freedom and integrity.

Ozerinc earned his PhD in mechanical engineering from Illinois in 2015 with his dissertation, “Microscale Mechanical Characterization in Extreme Environments.” He is on the faculty at Middle East Technical University and is currently a visiting researcher in MechSE Professor Bill King’s research group. His areas of research include additive manufacturing of advanced materials and structures, 3D printing of novel polymers and polymer composites, nanostructured metals, high entropy alloys, metallic glasses, nanomechanical characterization, wear resistant coatings, and carbon-fiber reinforced polymer composites.

The award ceremony was held on April 27 at Koc University.
