Multiphase Flow Research Lab
The Multiphase Flow Research Laboratory is equipped with test loops for studying flow of dense gas-particle suspensions utilizing standpipes instead of storage bins. Basic knowledge on the latter is related to manufacturing, fluid dynamics of space propulsion, and pollution control. Extensive instrumentation systems in the laboratory include laser Doppler velocimetry, phase Doppler particle analyzer, primary standards of density, mass flow, and velocity, and other electrostatic and optical measurements on properties of phases. Current research represents a new thrust in the use of laser systems for measuring local instantaneous flow properties.
