Daniel Tortorelli retired in the fall semester as the George B. Grim Professor of Mechanical Science and Engineering. He will return to the MechSE department as the George B. Grim Professor Emeritus.
Tortorelli joined MechSE in 1990, and runs the Analytical and Computational Mechanics Lab. He is also the director of the new Center for Design and Optimization at the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory. He earned his MS (1985) and PhD (1988) in mechanical engineering from Illinois.
