Ferreira wins SME Education Award

Tungchao Julia Lu Professor Placid Ferreira received the 2016 Education Award from SME. This award honors an educator respected for the development of manufacturing-related curricula, fostering sound training methods, or inspiring students to enter the profession of manufacturing. 
Ferreira was recognized for his efforts in developing an innovative manufacturing curriculum; his outstanding teaching and mentorship; scholarly and innovative contributions to the field; and his leadership in industry manufacturing research and education.  
He will be presented with the award at a gala on May 15, 2016, in conjunction with the SME Annual Meeting in Orlando, Florida. 
Ferreira joined MechSE in 1987, and served as head of the department from 2009 to 2015. In December 2015, he was named director of the Micro-Nano Mechanical Systems Laboratory, also known as the MNMS Cleanroom. He earned his PhD in industrial engineering from Purdue University.
