Alumnus Agonafer receives PECASE

MechSE alumnus Damena Agonafer (PhD ME 2012), who studied under the late Prof. Mark A. Shannon, has been awarded the Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers (PECASE).

MechSE alumnus Damena Agonafer (PhD ME 2012) has received the Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers (PECASE), the highest honor bestowed by the U.S. government on outstanding scientists and engineers early in their careers.

During his graduate studies at Illinois, Agonafer was advised by the late Professor Mark A. Shannon.

Agonafer is the Clark Faculty Fellow and an associate professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Maryland, where he has worked since 2022. Previously on the faculty of Washington University in St. Louis, Agonafer pursues a wide range of thermal engineering research at the intersection of energy and sustainability.
