King begins term on ASME Board of Governors

William P. KingAt the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) Annual Meeting last week, the newly elected Board of Governors was announced and officially began their FY 2024-27 term. The new board includes MechSE Professor William P. King.

King will serve a three-year term, providing governance to ASME while implementing the organization’s strategic plan through a structure of committees. ASME’s Board of Governors is chosen from the Society’s membership and presides over its activities.

“Collectively, the expertise and commitment to our industry these individuals possess will help propel our mission to advance engineering for the benefit of humanity,” said Thomas Costabile, Executive Director and CEO of ASME.

King is the Ralph A. Andersen Endowed Chair in MechSE and is on the faculty at Carle Illinois College of Medicine. He is the recipient of multiple ASME honors, including the Bergles-Rohsenow Young Investigator Award in Heat Transfer, Gustus-Larson Memorial Award, and just this year, the William T. Ennor Manufacturing Technology Award. He has been an ASME Fellow since 2011.
