Prof. Mariana Kersh's lecture at the International Society of Biomechanics in Sports Conference focused on how multi-scale simulations can be used to assess tissue mechanics in athletes.
Kersh’s research in the Tissue and Biomechanics Lab focuses on bone and joint diseases, and the relationship between properties of musculoskeletal tissues and their function in order to help in the diagnosis and treatment of musculoskeletal disorders. Her presentation – “From the Outside In: Evaluating Tissue Response to Physical Activity Using Multi-scale Simulations” – focused on how multi-scale simulations can be used to assess tissue mechanics in athletes.
She also served on a panel with other women scientists to discuss the challenges faced by women in biomechanics and science fields.
The International Society of Biomechanics in Sports is composed of members from around the world with a common desire to study and understand human movement, especially as it relates to applied sports biomechanics. Participants come from a wide range of backgrounds including exercise science, education, engineering, computer science, rehabilitation and medicine.
