Each year, as part of the ENG 100 course, mechanical engineering and engineering mechanics first-year students completed a human-centered design project. This year, the project entailed building a low-fidelity prototype of a recreational machine that would cater to one of the following five target groups: athletes; the elderly; visitors to Champaign, Illinois; the physically disabled; and elementary school students. The teams presented their prototypes yesterday at the ENG 100 EXPO, held at Lu MEB.

Each team made a short presentation to the faculty judges explaining how they went through the human-centered design process to eventually produce their product, with judges assessing their performance based on a set of rubrics.
