U.S. News ranks Illinois No. 4 in mechanical engineering

MechSE is one of 11 top-ten graduate programs in The Grainger College of Engineering for 2023.

In the 2023 graduate school rankings from U.S. News and World Report, the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign moved up to No. 4 in mechanical engineering. The program consistently ranks in the top ten across the nation.
The Grainger College of Engineering maintained its ranking of No. 10 overall across all graduate engineering programs, with 11 individual programs ranked in the top ten.
Earlier this year, the same noted publication ranked Illinois No. 2 in online graduate education for mechanical engineering.
The MechSE Department’s associate head for graduate programs is Professor Petros Sofronis.
