Assistant Professor Chenhui Shao was recognized for his early-career technical contributions to manufacturing and design with the 2021 Outstanding Young Investigator Award from the Institute of Industrial and Systems Engineers Manufacturing & Design Division (IISE M&D). He received the award at the Manufacturing and Design Division Town Hall Meeting on May 23.
Shao’s research focuses on smart manufacturing, machine learning, statistics, big data analytics in manufacturing, and materials joining. He has earned multiple other honors and awards in the last few years, including a 2020 NSF CAREER Award; the 2019 SME Barbara M. Fossum Outstanding Young Manufacturing Engineer Award; SME’s 30 Under 30 honoree in 2018; a Best Paper Award from ASME International’s Manufacturing Science and Engineering Conference; and Best Applications Paper Award from “IISE Transactions.” Shao was also named a Scholar-in-Residence from the National Center for Supercomputing Applications at UIUC. This year (2021), he was selected as one of only 30 nationwide to attend the ASEE DELTA Junior Faculty Institute. And he is routinely named to UIUC's List of Teachers Ranked as Excellent by Their Students.
