Groundbreaking
MechSE students, alumni, faculty, campus officials, and special guest Sidney Lu were in attendance Friday, October 12, 2018, for the department’s historic groundbreaking celebration of the Mechanical Engineering Building. Under a tent at Green St. and Goodwin Ave., one of the busiest intersections on campus, the ceremony kicked off the extensive renovation of 60,000 square feet of MEB and construction of a 25,000 square foot addition.
Illinois Chancellor Robert Jones helped celebrate the event, along with Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs and Provost Andreas Cangellaris, College of Engineering Executive Associate Dean Martin Wong, and MechSE Department Head Anthony Jacobi.
With this historic project - set to reopen for classes in Fall 2021 - we are reimagining and reengineering MEB for education, innovation, and community. It will be truly transformational.
