Dairo CaraballoMechSE graduate student Dairo Caraballo recently won the TechnipFMC Fellowship Award for the 2021 academic year.

The TechnipFMC Educational Fund Fellowship supports students of higher education (master’s and doctoral students) who are conducting research in areas related to the work of TechnipFMC Technologies, with preference given to students who have research interest in the areas of upstream oil and gas.

Caraballo is currently working at an oil and gas company in Canada while enrolled in MechSE’s Master of Engineering in Mechanical Engineering program (M.Eng.ME). The fellowship will contribute to his professional development within an energy industry-oriented track.

Caraballo has worked in the oil and gas industry for the past 12 years. He said he decided to pursue his master’s degree from UIUC to gain advanced knowledge in heat transfer, thermodynamics, thermal system design, and computational modeling of industrial transport processes. MechSE’s M.Eng. program was the perfect fit because of the flexibility to accommodate his full-time job, along with its global reputation.

After just one semester, Caraballo was able to develop great connections with his professors to receive academic guidance and get recommendations for the fellowship.

“This fellowship brings recognition to me and also demonstrates the academic strengths and rigor of the M.Eng. graduate students and program,” Caraballo said.
