Since 1968, the Everitt Award has been given annually in memory of Dean Emeritus William L. Everitt to recognize a faculty member for their outstanding undergraduate teaching. It is one of the most coveted awards available to the faculty and serves to emphasize the importance attached to good teaching in The Grainger College of Engineering. The award is made possible through an endowment contributed by the personal and corporate friends of Dean Everitt.

Ewoldt strives to motivate students with real-world examples and equip them with multiple levels of understanding from knowledge to critical thinking. His aim is to train effective technical communicators and prepare students with a firm fundamental understanding of the course material, allowing them to solve previously unseen problems.

He has earned numerous previous awards for his teaching, including the 2015 Rose Award for Teaching Excellence, 2017, 2020, and 2021 Two-Year Alumni Effective Teaching Award, 2018 Collins Award for Innovative Teaching, 2019 and 2022 Five-Year Alumni Effective Teaching Award, and the List of Teachers Ranked as Excellent more than 15 times.

Ewoldt was honored by the college at their April 24 awards banquet.
