An upcoming sophomore studying engineering mechanics in the Department of Mechanical Science and Engineering, Abby Pucek chose to attend Illinois because of the prestigious programs. She was honored to be a recipient this past school year of the Ford Foundation Undergraduate Engineering Scholarship.

“Illinois has one of the best engineering programs not only in the country but also the world. It was such an honor and accomplishment to get into this program, with it being so close to home and affordable to me, it was just the right choice,” she said.

Her favorite classes are Calculus 3 and ME 170, Computer Aided Design. “I really enjoy math, with it being my favorite subject in general. And ME 170 has taught me so much more about Creo, which I find so interesting and very helpful for future internships in engineering fields.”

In her free time, Pucek, who is from Kildeer, Illinois, enjoys dancing and running.

“This inspires me to help pay it forward for someone in the future because this scholarship has given me such a helpful head-start into college and I want to be able to give someone this amazing opportunity as well.”

Making a Difference

“This scholarship will help me financially this year because it is more money that I am able to keep in my savings account to earn interest to have when I come out of college, which will help me get a head start in my job.”
