William E. Dunn, a retired professor from Mechanical Science and Engineering, passed away suddenly on Saturday, December 31. He was 61 years old.
Professor Dunn joined the department as an assistant professor in 1977 and became an associate professor in 1983. His research areas included heat transfer; energy systems and thermodynamics; fluid dynamics; computational science and engineering; and control systems. He routinely appeared on the list of teachers ranked as excellent by their students, among many other recognitions and awards. He retired in 2006.
He received a B.S. in Engineering Science from Northwestern University in 1972, followed by an M.S. degree in 1974 and a Ph.D. in 1978, both in Nuclear Engineering from the University of Illinois. He was born on April 13, 1950, in Chicago to Otis and Lucille Peters Dunn.
