MechSE lecturer, advisor, and alumna Mariana Silva Sohn has received a 2013-14 Engineering Council Outstanding Advising Award.

"Mariana has done an outstanding job," said Emad Jassim, Director of Undergraduate Programs. "She works very hard to serve the students."

Every year the College of Engineering recognizes the top 10% of engineering advisors on campus. These advisors are chosen by undergraduate and graduate students within the engineering discipline.

"Mariana has been a tremendous resource. I always know that any problem I have can always be solved in an efficient, friendly manner," said MechSE junior Doug Podgorny. "The door to Mariana's office is always open, and she constantly encourages us to stop by with questions or just to say hello. Our advising appointments are always something I look forward to."

She received her PhD in Theoretical and Applied Mechanics from MechSE in 2009.
