Most of MechSE’s senior capstone design projects are completed for corporate sponsors or to address a mechanical issue on campus.
Thanks to someone in the Champaign community reaching out, one of the Fall 2019 ME 470 projects will address a more personal challenge: designing a custom walker for a local resident who has cerebral palsy.
“She’s (currently) using a device made for children, so it doesn’t fit her properly,” said Professor Elizabeth Hsiao-Wecksler, the faculty advisor to the “gait trainer” student team who is tackling the project.
Hsiao-Wecksler and her team have a long history of impressive work in this area.
