Two MechSE professors, Chia-Fon Lee and Moshe Matalon, were among a dozen speakers who were invited to make plenary presentations at a workshop on Combustion Science in an Energy-Constrained World held on July 31, 2010 as part of the centenary celebration of Tsinghua University (Beijing, China) and the opening ceremony of a center on Combustion Energy. Professor Lee addressed issues concerned with clean engine combustion in face of energy sustainability and climate change and Professor Matalon reviewed the state of the art of combustion theory identifying major directions for future research. Tsinghua University was also the host of the 33rd International Symposium on Combustion during the first week of August. The symposia, which are the highlight of the Combustion Institute activities, attract members of the Institute as well as others interested in combustion from around the world.
