MechSE PhD candidate Yaqing Jin received the highly competitive 2018 Fluids Travel Award from the journal Fluids. He was selected from more than 100 applicants worldwide, each of whom conducts research focused primarily in fluids mechanics.

Jin is a PhD student in Assistant Professor L. P. Chamorro’s Renewable Energy and Turbulent Environment Group. His research focuses on turbulence-structure interaction using advanced flow diagnostics and theory. He aims to uncover distinctive scale-to-scale interaction in problems related to flow control, energy-efficient locomotion, and energy harvesting.

"It is an honor to receive this award," Jin said. "It motivates me to continue performing cutting-edge research toward an academic career in near future.”

The award provides 800 Swiss Francs to attend any academic conference in the second half of 2018 or the first half of 2019. He will present his latest research at the 71st Annual Meeting of the APS Division of Fluid Dynamics in November 2018 in Atlanta.
