MechSE research professor Pega Hrnjak has won the prestigious Gustav Lorentzen Prize, which was awarded to him August 25 at the International Congress of Refrigeration in Prague, Czech Republic.

The Gustav Lorentzen Prize was established in 1997 to honor the memory of Professor Gustav Lorentzen, Honorary President of the International Institute of Refrigeration, who died in 1995. Lorentzen held a pre-eminent position in the refrigeration world for almost half a century. The prize is awarded to a person with outstanding and original achievements in academic or industrial research, innovation or development, in all fields of refrigeration, thus promoting creativity and renewal in the fields of expertise of the IIR.

Professor Hrnjak has served as co-director of the Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Center since 2001. He came to the University of Illinois in 1993 after receiving a D.Sc. in mechanical engineering from the University of Belgrade.
