Donovan, Squillo move on up

Two alumni of the Department of Mechanical Science and Engineering (MechSE), Thomas J. Donovan and Thomas Squillo, have been featured recently in the "Moving on Up" column of the Chicago Tribune. The "Moving on Up" column, which can be found in the business section of the Chicago Tribune, recognizes Chicago-area business people who have been hired, promoted, or otherwise recognized in their workplace.

Two alumni of the Department of Mechanical Science and Engineering (MechSE), Thomas J. Donovan and Thomas Squillo, have been featured recently in the "Moving on Up" column of the Chicago Tribune.

The "Moving on Up" column, which can be found in the business section of the Chicago Tribune, recognizes Chicago-area business people who have been hired, promoted, or otherwise recognized in their workplace.

Donovan, who graduated from the University of Illinois with a mechanical engineering degree in 1982, has been appointed to the management committee of law firm Barnes & Thornburg. He currently serves as chair of the firm's Intellectual Property (IP) department. Since 2006, Mr. Donovan has been recognized each year as an "Illinois Super Lawyer" in surveys conducted by Law & Politics and featured in Chicago Magazine. Donovan also serves on the MechSE Alumni Advisory Board.

Squillo also received his bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Illinois in 1982, and then stayed to receive his master’s degree in mechanical engineering as well. Squillo, previously principal mechanical engineer at EYP Mission Critical Facilities Inc., has been named vice president of Environmental Systems Design, Inc. (ESD) where he will lead mechanical engineering design initiatives for ESD's national mission critical facilities group.
