Hi again!

Arriving in Copenhagen for the first time!
Arriving in Copenhagen for the first time!

They say the best way to get to know someone is to travel with them, and I certainly agree. I got to know my friend Misha (as shown in pictures), on our trip to Copenhagen, where we explored the city for a couple days, and even took a day trip to Sweden!

Upon arrival Thursday night, Misha and I acquired some food and played some cards… something that would quickly become a competition to last throughout the trip. I have noticed during my travels how arriving in a city at night can make it look very ominous. However, upon waking up the next morning I always feel much more comfortable.

For our first day, after seeing the city in a whole new light, we acquired some sweets to fill us up. Then we walked all around the city, stopping by the beautiful Christiansburg Slot, went down a slide at the Architecture Museum, and skated at an outdoor ice rink at night. It was my first time skating with hockey skates, so I was trying out some sick tricks and only fell a few times :)

The second day we started off the day with a bagel – possibly the best bagel I have ever had. Then we walked around some more in the sun and found the little mermaid and a lovely windmill.

If you look closely in the little mermaid picture you will see Amager Bakke, a Danish waste power plant that is very energy efficient. Back at Illinois, when I was taking Thermodynamics with Professor Liebenberg, we discussed this powerplant frequently, and I loved recognizing it in the skyline!

After this we crossed the river to check out Christiana, a commune in Copenhagen. Definitely an interesting spot to check out.

For dinner Misha and I went to a really yummy Thai restaurant. Like I said, we quickly became obsessed with a card game. By the end of the night on day two I made a major comeback, and we were all tied up!

The next day we picked up another bagel for breakfast – it was just that good we had to go back – and then off we went to Sweden. Just a train ride away was the city of Malmö.

Walking around the city was really fun. We went to several parks and found the giant tower, the Turning Torso. People in Sweden seemed very happy, and it was so fun to walk around such a happy place.

After visiting Malmö, we finally had to fly back home to Dublin. A great trip for the books.

Misha and I continued to play our card game all the way back to the Dublin airport, where I tragically lost in the end. I was not upset at all… nope not at all…

Traveling home to Dublin I excitedly waited for a break from school coming up as well as my birthday. Look out for blog posts coming out soon about that!

Thanks for reading,
Lexi
