Hovakimyan named IFAC Fellow for pioneering contributions to autonomous systems

Prof. Naira Hovakimyan was honored by the International Federation of Automatic Control for her decades of impact in the areas of robust adaptive control and autonomous systems.

portrait of Naira HovakimyanMechSE Professor Naira Hovakimyan has been elected as a Fellow of the International Federation of Automatic Control (IFAC), one of the most prestigious honors in the field of control theory and systems engineering.

Hovakimyan was recognized “for contributions to robust adaptive control, safe learning in autonomous systems, and technology transitions to practice,” and it reflects her sustained impact on both theoretical foundations and real-world applications. She will be honored during the IFAC World Congress in Busan, Korea, in August 2026.

Hovakimyan is the W. Grafton and Lillian B. Wilkins Professor and director of the AVIATE Center at Illinois.
