Each year, the Engineering Council recognizes the top 10 percent of advisors across all disciplines of engineering. The Outstanding Advisor Award is chosen by undergraduate and graduate students in The Grainger College of Engineering.
This year, MechSE’s director of undergraduate programs, Stephanie Ott-Monsivais was awarded this honor.
Ott-Monsivais has many years of experience at Illinois – first as an undergraduate student, earning bachelor’s degrees in engineering mechanics and mathematics in 2006, then as a graduate student, earning an MS in theoretical and applied mechanics in 2008. She began working as an academic advisor for in the department in August 2017 and became director of undergraduate programs two years ago.
She has previously won this honor in 2018, 2019, 2021, 2022 and 2023—every year but two since she became an advisor. In 2023, she was named a top academic advisor on the entire campus when she was awarded the competitive Campus Award for Excellence in Undergraduate Advising.
Ott-Monsivais was formally recognized at the university’s Celebration of Teaching Excellence ceremony and reception earlier in the spring semester.
