This past weekend, MechSE’s Mariana Kersh was recognized with the Golden Apple Award for Engineering and Entrepreneurship at the convocation event for the Carle Illinois College of Medicine (CIMED).
CIMED’s Golden Apple Awards are chosen annually by each class of medical students to recognize the faculty member(s) whom the class feels distinguished themselves through their teaching and mentoring.
The citation honoring Kersh with the award stated: “We consistently praise Dr. Kersh for her exceptional ability to cultivate an engineering mindset within a clinical context, fostering innovation and problem-solving skills. We appreciate her passion for innovation, her well-designed curriculum, and her ability to challenge assumptions, truly embodying the 'physician innovator' model. Dr. Kersh is recognized for her impactful mentorship, extensive experience, and dedication to enhancing the engineering curriculum, making it engaging and educational. We're grateful for her strong investment in our understanding of the innovative process and her commitment to our growth.”
Kersh is an associate professor in mechanical science and engineering, a health innovation professor in the Carle Illinois College of Medicine, and a co-theme leader at the Beckman Institute.
