Hesai Group, a supplier of sensors for self-driving vehicles, rose by 10.8% on its debut on the Nasdaq late last week – with hopes for growth in autonomous transport. The Shanghai-based company, which said in a statement, that it raised $190 million in its IPO, is a global leader in three-dimensional light detection and ranging, or LiDAR.
Hesai Technology’s co-founder and CEO is MechSE alumnus Yifan David Li (MSME ’09, PhD ME ’13), who studied under Professor Elizabeth Hsiao-Wecksler. He founded the company in 2014, just one year after earning his doctoral degree.
