MechSE doctoral student Yeageun Lee recently won the Functional Materials Division (FMD) Graduate Technical Division Student Poster Contest at The Minerals, Metals & Materials Society (TMS) Annual Meeting in Anaheim, California, in March.

Lee’s technical poster focused on his research project, “Crumpled MoS2 Flexoelectric Energy Harvester,” describing his study of crumpled 2D graphene-MoS2-graphene heterostructures for flexoelectric energy harvesters. The heterostructure design enables harvesting of energy from multiple types of movement such as stretching and bending.

Lee earned his bachelor’s degree in mechanical and aerospace engineering at KAIST and his master’s degree in mechanical engineering at Seoul National University. He is advised by SungWoo Nam, formerly an assistant professor in MechSE, now an associate professor in the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at the University of California, Irvine.
