In the 2022 undergraduate school rankings from U.S. News and World Report, the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign moved up to No. 7 in mechanical engineering. The program consistently ranks in the top ten across the nation.
The MechSE Department's associate head for undergraduate programs is Professor Sanjiv Sinha.
"While the U.S. News ranking is not the all-important metric for us, it nevertheless provides insight into how we are viewed by our peer programs,” Sinha said. “We continue to focus on producing outstanding engineers with the talent, passion, and training to improve the world. With our move to the renovated Sidney Lu Mechanical Engineering Building, the program is poised to become even more innovative in providing high-quality engineering education at scale.”
The Grainger College of Engineering maintained its ranking of No. 6 overall across all undergraduate engineering programs. Ten of its individual programs were ranked in the top ten.
Earlier this year, the same noted publication ranked Illinois No. 5 in graduate programs for mechanical engineering and No. 2 in ME online graduate education.
