Last week I had the opportunity to speak with Samantha Knoll, MechSE graduate student and member of the Graduate Society of Women Engineers (GradSWE) Committee.  GradSWE is hosting an inaugural conference entitled weSTEM (Women Empowered in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics), on April 20, 2013, at the Siebel Center at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.  Women engineers and scientists with advanced degrees will share experiences from their academic and professional career paths and provide insight into their personal successes in STEM.

What an exciting event!  The conference website can be found at http://westemillinois.com/, and you can read about the speakers by clicking on "Keynote Speakers" and "Session Speakers."  The weSTEM workshops and networking opportunities are designed to fuel the passions of attendees and inspire women in STEM to develop solutions at the forefront of innovation.

Registration is limited.  Approximately 50 attendees will be chosen from an applicant pool to attend the weSTEM conference.  To apply, complete and submit the form available here by Sunday, March 24, 2013.  After acceptance to attend, confirmed participants will be charged a $10 registration fee.  Applications are open to graduate students in all STEM programs at Illinois.  For more information, visit http://westemillinois.com/ or contact weSTEM Publicity Coordinator, Ritu Raman, at rraman9[figure="" class="align-center" width="10"]illinois [dot] edu.

I encourage eligible students to apply to attend the weSTEM conference.  This is a great, unique opportunity to network with experienced, successful women in STEM and meet other graduate women on campus.
