Some local high school students have taken advantage of a program put together by several collaborating groups in MechSE.

Organized by MechSE education coordinator Joe Muskin, the Young Scholars Program is sponsored by Professor Andrew Alleyne’s POETS Center, and by the Emerging Frontiers in Research and Innovation mentoring program, which is directed in part by faculty members Alex Vakakis and Sam Tawfick.

“I think it’s really important to keep that pipeline going to get younger people interested in careers in science and engineering,” Muskin said.

In February, the students will give presentations at the Emerging Researchers National Conference in Washington, D.C.

Local media were at MechSE’s Mechanical Engineering Laboratory recently to see the students work in Assistant Professor Nenad Miljkovic’s lab. For more information on this program, there is a comprehensive article in the News-Gazette and a video report on WCIA.
