Zhejiang University/University of Illinois Institute: Call for Applicants
The Zhejiang University/University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign Institute (the ZJU-UIUC Institute) is a new engineering college located on the new Zhejiang University (ZJU) International Campus in Haining, China, about 120 km southwest of Shanghai.
The ZJU-UIUC Institute conducts teaching and research in broad program themes of engineering and system sciences; information and data sciences; and energy, environment, and infrastructure sciences. Undergraduate and graduate degrees are offered in civil and environmental engineering, computer engineering, electrical engineering, electronics engineering, and mechanical engineering. Example research areas within these programs address intelligent infrastructure, digital manufacturing, transportation electrification, environmental sustainability, energy and water integration, mobile systems, thermal management, high-performance and distributed computing, communications and networks, advanced electronics, atomic-scale materials, and many others. The ZJU-UIUC Institute holds classes and student activities in English.
The ZJU-UIUC Institute invites applications for multiple tenure-track faculty positions at all levels and in areas of engineering and science as appropriate for its multidisciplinary mission. Applications are especially encouraged from candidates whose research interests address interdisciplinary topics associated with the program themes.
Applicants at all ranks and relevant disciplines will be considered. Successful candidates will initiate and carry out collaborative research and perform academic and professional service duties associated with the ZJU-UIUC Institute. Successful assistant professor candidates must have an earned Ph.D. or equivalent degree, excellent academic credentials, strong research plans, and an outstanding ability to teach effectively at both the graduate and undergraduate levels. Mid-career candidates should be established leaders in their field, exhibit a strong record of publication and externally funded research, and demonstrate participation in interdisciplinary collaborations. Senior level appointments are available for persons of international stature seeking to build substantial research and teaching programs. New faculty will report to the ZJU-UIUC Institute, and will serve as Joint Institute Fellows on the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC) campus for one year prior to their assignment in China.
The search process will begin June 1, 2016 and continue until positions are filled or through July 30, 2017. Salary and research initiation support will be commensurate with qualifications and competitive with international norms. The first set of positions will start September 1, 2016, with additional positions that start January 1, 2017 and September 1, 2017.
