MechSE alumnus Jason Troutner (BSME ’16) has made the Forbes “30 Under 30” list for 2020. The co-founder of startup Cast 21, he and other co-founder Ashley Moy both made the list in the Healthcare category.

The University of Illinois cracked the Top 10 institutions for most alumni recognized by Forbes.

Founded when Troutner was still in MechSE, the Cast 21 team uses medical and engineering technologies in a lattice structure cast that can be applied universally to conform to any amorphous shape, thus creating a form-fitting, breathable cast. This open, light-weight design allows for easy integration with vibration and electrical muscle stimulation therapies to decrease overall healing time.

At the 2016 Cozad competition, Cast 21 won legal services from Meyer Capel in the areas of incorporation, bylaws/operating agreement, initial incorporation/organization documents, drafting employment agreements, and non-disclosure.

Also in 2016, Troutner was also a finalist for the Illinois Innovation Prize and was named to the Senior 100 at Illinois.

In 2017, Cast 21 received $800K in funds for research and continuation of its product.
