Robert F. Sawyer, Class of 1935 Professor of Energy Emeritus from the University of California at Berkeley, was guest lecturer at the 12th Yunchuan Aisinjioro-Soo Distinguished Lecture on Thursday, November 30, 2008.

Sawyer's lecture on "the Science Base of Policies that Address Energy and Environmental Problems and the Role of Combustion Technology" which was well-attended by faculty and students, raised the issue of whether science should serve as the basis for government policy.

The annual Soo lecture was established in 1992 by Professor Shao Lee Soo and his wife, Hermia, in memory of Professor Soo's mother.
