Illinois was recently named the "top wired college" in the nation by PC Magazine. The magazine's 2008 rankings were compiled in partnership with the Princeton Review, which included tech-specific questions as part of a survey it conducted earlier in the year for the 2009 edition of its annual publication, The Best 368 Colleges.

Interestingly, only eight of the magazine's top 20 picks in 2006 made the list this year. Illinois, which was noted for the strength of its courses on parallel computing and data mining, went from sixth to first. The other top five schools in 2008 include Kansas State University, the University of Utah, Bentley College and Pomona College.
