Mechanical engineering PhD candidate Hyung-Jin Yoon was recently recognized as an outstanding reviewer for the AIAA Journal of Guidance, Control, and Dynamics.

The journal is published monthly, with about 50 articles each time, and a handful of reviewers are solicited for each article. However, very few reviewers are recognized at this level. Yoon has served as a reviewer for the journal for about three years, and also reviews for IEEE Transactions on Control Systems Technology, IEEE Transactions on Neural Networks and Learning Systems, and the Journal of the Franklin Institute. He said he believes good reviewers are critical on the claimed contribution, have a willingness to verify technical details, and provide constructive suggestions.

Yoon works in Professor Naira Hovakimyan’s group in the Advanced Controls Research Lab. He earned a BS in mechanical engineering from Hanyang University in South Korea, an MS in electrical engineering from Sungkyunkwan University in South Korea, and an MS in applied mathematics from Illinois.

The Journal of Guidance, Control, and Dynamics publishes original archival papers disclosing significant technical knowledge, exploratory developments, design criteria, and applications in aeronautics, astronautics, celestial mechanics, and related fields. It includes qualified papers on dynamics, stability, guidance, control, navigation, optimization, electronics, avionics, and information processing related to aeronautical, astronautical, and marine systems.
