Assistant Professor Ken Christensen has received a 2006 Young Investigator Award from the Air Force Office of Scientific Research. This is the first year of the AFOSR Young Investigator Research Program, which is open to scientists and engineers at research institutions across the United States. Competition for YIP grants is intense. Of the 145 proposals received in response to the AFOSR announcement, only 21 will receive grants. Christensen will look at low-order models of highly-irregular surface roughness and their impact on wall turbulence.

The objective of the AFOSR Young Investigator Research Program is to foster creative basic research in science and engineering, enhance early career development of outstanding young investigators, and increase opportunities for the young investigators to recognize the Air Force mission and the related challenges in science and engineering.
