ASME students exposed grade school students to two engaging engineering activities.

As part of science fairs at Benjamin Elementary and at Grove Elementary schools, both in Normal, Illinois, the ASME students facilitated hands-on activities where students made 3D plastic objects and mirrors. Each student got to go home with their products.

The activities were designed for students to have a fun experience doing some engineering and to encourage them to begin thinking about possible careers in engineering. Parents were with their students, often having as much fun as the children. Unit 5 schools event coordinator Tracy Donath reported “the kids were very excited about the event, and many told me that your activities were their favorite activities!”

Over 100 families attended each of the two events held about two weeks apart.
