Rapid Prototyping Laboratory
The Ford Concurrent Design and Manufacturing Laboratory was funded with a $750,000 gift from the Ford Motor Company. It provides undergraduate and graduate students access to some of the most up-to-date manufacturing technologies currently in use, which are rarely found in an academic laboratory.
Technologies available include three advanced rapid-prototyping systems: an Objet Eden 350 printer; a 3-D Systems Viper Si Stereolithography Apparatus (SLA); and a Stratasys Fused Deposition Method (FDM) system. Also included are a Cincinnati three-axis machining center and a turning center, and vacuum forming equipment to produce fully functional parts from rapid prototyped models. The combination of CAD modeling using Pro/Engineer software coupled with the creation of real physical parts provides an extremely rich design learning experience.
