Undergraduate Program
The undergraduate programs in Mechanical Science and Engineering at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign are consistently ranked among the top in the nation. Students enjoy access to an internationally renowned and award-winning faculty, world-class teaching and research laboratories, and the first-rate Grainger Engineering Library and Information Center.
In addition, undergraduates have a number of unusual learning opportunities through which they can bridge class work and engineering in practice: ME 170, a freshman course in engineering design; ME 470, a capstone course where they work on actual design problems from industry; ME 390, a seminar series in which speakers from industry address the opportunities and challenges of the engineering profession; and the Extern Program, through which students spend 2-3 days visiting engineers in industrial settings. Students will also find that there are many opportunities to work with faculty on special research projects.
